Playing Tetris with the Astral Self: The Anatomy of Two Bars on "Scars(a Third)"
One of my absolute favorite songs on 7 Solemn Rites was written entirely around the concept of astral projection.
The structure—I, Me, My(self)—was my way of hitting on different angles of a person's shortcomings. It's like playing Tetris with someone else in the room. You're always going to do better when you’ve got an extra set of eyes looking at the board.
Because these three verses represent different layers of awareness, I placed a very important set of bars right in the "My(self)" verse for Scars(a Third):
"Woe steps cannot place a trace if we foe flips /" "And time cannot play my face if we focused."
This right here is all about dealing with the cards you were dealt by refusing to engage the predetermined target. The world sets up these invisible traps for you, and if you walk right into them, it only serves to keep you in bondage with zero hope of advancing in the game.
The clock is going to tick no matter how you feel about it. There are no timeouts in this life. You're expected to go out there and get things done in a timely fashion, and let's be real—nobody cares if you're tired or scared. You're on someone else's schedule until you decide you aren't.
Rolling around to the Llama sound
I remember backing up all of my Google Bookmarks before that service was sunsetted. It's probably somewhere on my Google Drive...Hopefully.
Here's another go at digging through my bloated bookmarks bar, and documenting some of the more interesting things I've come across.
